In the digital age, you already know how vital it is for your small business to have a website. However, simply having a website isnโ€™t enough for you to have a successful online presence. There are 5 highly Effective Small Business Web Design Tips for Success.

5 Effective Small Business Web Design Tips

1. Use a Common Content Management Interface

You donโ€™t want to use an obscure content management system (a.k.a. CMS) when youโ€™re setting up your new website. Only then will you have lots of options available to use for creating a crisp, clean website, which moves quickly for your visitors. This isnโ€™t the only reason this is so important though. Itโ€™s also important because itโ€™s really difficult to find someone who knows how to support, upgrade, or even make a simple change for your website.

2. Remain Up-To-Date With Technology

Itโ€™s important to note Flash technology isnโ€™t supported by most smart phones. So, when someone comes across this theyโ€™ll actually encounter either an error message or a blank page. This isnโ€™t a good way to make a first impression on a new customer. Fortunately, there are many other ways to create an interactive website to wow your visitors.

Some designers believe you shouldnโ€™t add all these bells and whistles, but instead stick to a simpler design andย colour scheme. In this case, youโ€™ll also want to use only a few fonts, sizes, and textures too. While fancy things look cool, if youโ€™re trying to mainly convey information, the simpler, the better since itโ€™s easier to read then.

3. Choose Your Photos Carefully

In the same way as you donโ€™t want to overdo it with bells and whistles, you also need to use discretion with the images you choose to use as well. While relevant images (e.g. team photos, examples of your work) are great, you want to avoid using too many of them. Youโ€™ll also want to avoid cheap, stock photos and spend a little money on some good, high quality photos you actually own. A key to remember here is if the photo doesnโ€™t really add to your website, you probably donโ€™t need it anyway. Not all stock photos are bad, but you really need toย scrutinise them because you donโ€™t want overused photos.

4. Give Customers What They Really Want

Your customers are expecting to receive certain information from your website. Also, make sure this information is current and easy to find. If your website is stale or outdated, is a big turn off. Additionally, if the information theyโ€™re after is hidden or difficult to find, then you can expect your customers to go elsewhere. They may even go to your competitor if their website is easier or faster to navigate.

5. The Content Writing Itself

One of the most important parts of your website is your written content. Without it, you may as well not even have a website. So, make sure you quickly and clearly state your websiteโ€™s purpose to your visitors. You want to keep the wording on your website as concise as possible so your visitors donโ€™t need to spend much time reading through pages of content in search of the basic information they need. While you may wish to have someone write this type of content for you, itโ€™s important you at least write the first draft then allow the writer to polish it for you. This is the best way to make sure the content on all of your websiteโ€™s pages is correct.
